What really scares me is that… You take it so personal! That you, as an individual, are tackling a task that I feel is quite thoroughly hacked by a group of Spanish- (or anything-)speakers.
…Makes me shudder. Maybe I’ll end up learning Galician one day..?

Dude! you did an awesome work here, making a regional language take over so many national languages, and reaching Spanish that is the 3rd most-speaking language in the world.
Congratulations! You are damn good!

My response: http://standblog.org/blog/post/2008/05/22/I-love-you-too-Galego
> There is absolutely no discriminatory policy against he Galician language. There is though, some lack of information of my part, as I did not know when I did my talk in Barcelona, that a Galego language pack was available. And there is misunderstanding when people think I ignored this on purpose. The truth is actually much simpler : I just did not know. Now, I know, and I rejoice that Firefox 2 is available in Galego via a language pack. I do hope that Firefox 3 will be available in Galego soon, as Mancomun, the Xunta and Mozilla work together in the same direction.

I would add two steps to the ones you have in your process:
- review if the translation is correctly formated and fully up-to-date with ‘msgstat gl.po’, where msgstat is this little alias: alias msgstat=’msgfmt –stat -c -v -o /dev/null’
- spellcheck the translation before adding it to the glosary with ‘msgspell’. I use two alias here (for ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 files):
alias msgspell-lat1=’POFileSpell –command="ispell -l” -i’
alias msgspell-u8=’POFileSpell –command="iconv -f utf8 -t latin1 | ispell -l” -i’
The first one allows one to edit the PO file when a typo is found while the second one doesn’t (you have to edit the file later one) but you can add known “good” words and they will be added to the PO file (in the translation header: X-POFile-SpellExtra)
